Ken Sturdivant is a native Georgian and has fished the lakes, streams and rivers all over the southeast. He is a retired Vice President and branch manager of a major Atlanta Bank where he had worked for 28 years. His extensive background with high profile banking customers has been a great value to his career.
In 1969, Ken married the former Karen Gamadanis and she has been a valuable asset to his dual careers. As a professional banker and angler, he has many highly developed inter-personal skills in dealing with the public. |
Background (professional): Having been an avid angler since the age of 4, Ken
Sturdivant has been teaching angling skills learned over 50 years. His method and manner of teaching and instructional skills, has helped propel him into a national limelight. Ken joined the Bass Anglers Sportsmans Society in 1969 and is charter member number 263. That society now has more than 600,000 members.
In 1970, Ken Sturdivant chartered the Metro Bass Masters, a Bass Anglers Sportsmans Society affiliated club.
In 1982 and 1983, Ken was the president of the Metro Bass Masters. Ken was the club’s Master Angler in 1981, 1982 and 1983.
In 1981, Ken began teaching “On the Water Fishing Schools” on area lakes. The schools include Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass, Maps and Depth Finders, Stripers! and Crappie Year Round.
He also teaches advanced fishing techniques and tournament techniques.
In addition to these projects, Ken has added a series of audio and video tapes on the market that are related to helping anglers find and catch more fish.
In 1982, Ken developed the Southern Fishing Schools. Since that time, Ken has thousands of graduates of his schools and seminars. His events are often sold out. These events include Striper Fever, The Southern Fishing Bass Schools, Slab A Thon and a 12 month series of mini seminars called the Southern Fishing Seminar Series.
Ken now hosts monthly fishing seminars at the Bass Pro Shops Sportsmans Warehouse in Duluth, Georgia and at the Wal Mart Super Center in Cumming, Georgia. Ken also hosts weekend fishing seminars on the Bass Tub at the Bass Pro Shop location.
Ken is a full time guide on Lake Sidney Lanier. He has been guiding on the lake since 1978 and fishes the lake an average of 200 days a year. He has been fishing the lake since 1956.
In 1982, Ken began radio and television work in several areas. During 1984, Ken began to host local angling clinics and has been weigh master and master of ceremonies for many local charitable tournaments. Also, Ken began to appear on national radio and television shows featuring his angling skills.
Over the following years, Ken hosted and appeared on local, regional and national radio and television shows, as well as producing many types of outdoor shows and clinics. Ken has also been featured in regional as well as national and international fishing publications.
During 1989, Ken began a writing career as an outdoor writer with several local, statewide and national publications. As a fishing writer and photographer for the Atlanta Journal and Constitution, The Lake Side Life, The Lake Lanier Guide, the Gainesville Times, Georgia Outdoor News, The Lake Lanier Journal, The News, Buford Georgia, The Forsyth County News, The Dawson Community News and the Times in Winder Georgia, The Dawsonville News.
Ken writes about fresh water fishing as well as covering the local, regional and national fishing events. In the last 20 years, Ken has covered such as the Bass Masters Classic, The Red Man All American, The Golden Blend World Championships, the BASSIN Gals World Championships and many other other events.
Ken has developed a reputation of delivering accurate and timely coverage of these outdoor events. During 1984, Ken began making personal appearances as well as directing and promoting local anglers. Basking Robins, Wal-Mart, American Telephone and Telegraph, Marta, the Olde Atlanta Club, Sportstown, Honda, Sports Authority, K Mart, Georgia Power, Hammonds Pro Bass, and Bass Pro Shops Sportsmans Warehouse are a few of these promotions.
In 1985, Ken began to operate the SOUTHERN FISHING SCHOOLS in the Atlanta area. Bass, stripers and crappie schools have been attended by thousands of local anglers.
In 1991, Ken was the first voice personality to work for the new “free” phone services offered by the Bell South and the Atlanta Journal and Constitution called the FIND-IT 511 “FISHING HOTLINE”. During the summer of 1993, Ken’s FISHING HOTLINE took more than 32,000 calls a month.
In September of 1993, Ken signed as director of fishing information for the new phone service for InfoVentures, a partnership with the Cox Publishing Companies and Bell South. This new service is called FIND-IT 511 and Ken’s “FISHING HOTLINE” is the number 4 line out of over 4,000 lines available. This FISHING HOTLINE now receives more than 5,000 calls a month on pay-for calls. Ken’s lines cover 13 lakes all over the state of Georgia and covers all freshwater species. The FISHING HOTLINE also offers trout fishing reports as well a salt water reports on the coast of Georgia. These lake reports are updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
In January of 1995, Ken became the “Voice of Lake Lanier” on Mountains Lake Radio, 1170am. Ken provides daily fishing reports and a hosts a live one hour radio show on Saturday morning. Monday through Friday, Ken provides daily fishing reports as well as segments offering tips and best fishing times to local anglers.
In 1995, Ken published three books, 52 Weeks on Lake Lanier, 52 Weeks of Lake Allatoona and 52 Weeks of West Point Lake. Starting in 1994, Ken has appeared at the Atlanta Boat Show teaching fishing clinics on the “Hawg Trough”. He also hosts daily seminars each year at the Summer Boat Show and the Gwinnett Trade Center. Ken is a lecturer at Georgia Powers “Great Outdoors Show”.
Starting in September of 1995, Ken began to hold monthly fishing seminars at the new Bass Pro Shops Sportsmans Warehouse. Also in the fall of 1995, Ken hosted the original Southern Fishing Schools at this location. He is featured Saturday’s at the famous “Bass Tub” to standing room crowds during his hourly seminars.
In late 1997, Ken began hosting a series of fishing seminars at the Wal Mart Super Center in Cumming, Georgia.
In 1998, Ken began weekly fishing reports on local lakes on Prestige Cable Television on TV4 in Cumming, Canton and surrounding locations.
The Original Southern Fishing Report is a weekly fishing report on 12 lakes in the state. This report is available weekly at these locations throughout the Atlanta market: 22 K Mart’s, 19 Wal Marts, 5 Sports Authorities, 3 Galyans, 19 Australian Body Works and many other local tackle and sporting goods locations. Ken produces the original Southern Fishing Report on Lake Lanier, Lake Allatoone, and West Point Lake by subscription via a weekly fax and e mail newsletter.
In addition to these projects, Ken has added a series of audio tapes to the market that are related to helping anglers find and catch more fish. In 1998, Ken introduced his new video, Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass.
Ken has been seen as a speaker and host at the Atlanta Boat Show, The Great Outdoors Show, the Summer Boat Show, Bass Madness at Sportsmans Warehouse and several other local and regional special events.
